Job summary

Community Human Services is seeking a part-time Overnight Shelter CSS in Southwestern Pennsylvania. You will provide direct care, case management, and housing‑focused support to shelter participants, helping them navigate benefits, referrals, and housing pathways.

The role emphasizes empathetic client relationships, adherence to trauma‑informed, harm‑reduction approaches, and collaboration with CHS teams to end homelessness for participants.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Act 34, Act 33, and FBI fingerprint clearances required upon hire.
• Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCM) and First Aid/CPR/AED certifications preferred or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and case management to shelter participants.
• Develop nonjudgemental, empathetic relationships to support housing goals.
• Assess participant needs and facilitate shelter move-ins.
• Assist in housing pathway applications and referrals.
• Create goal plans focusing on income, documents, and housing stability.
• Meet participants weekly to progress housing goals outside the shelter.
• Advocate for benefits and connect to community resources.
• Complete referrals and maintain accurate program documentation.
• Support harm reduction and trauma-informed, housing‑first principles.
• Engage with external homeless services and collaborate with shelter team.
• Attend training and staff meetings; maintain appropriate boundaries.
