Job summary

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland is seeking a Shelter Assistant for full-time roles to support shelter residents, maintain a safe and clean environment, and assist with program operations.

This position includes supervising clients, managing check-in, coordinating meals and activities, and ensuring compliance with policies. A valid Ohio driver’s license and strong communication skills are required. Benefits include health insurance, 401k, and paid time off.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; college coursework preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid Ohio Driver’s License.
• Ability to form good working and therapeutic relationships.
• Good written and oral communication skills and computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Ensure shelter program activities align with Catholic Charities' mission and values.
• Supervise clients, manage check-in, and enforce curfew and quiet hours.
• Provide client support and guidance; transport clients to appointments as needed.
• Perform de-escalation as needed and oversee self-administration of medication.
• Coordinate daily activities (showers, laundry, programming) and monitor safety and cleanliness.
• Maintain accurate records for reports to funders and use data systems like Penelope or Avatar.
