Job summary

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland is seeking a part-time Shelter Assistant in Lorain, OH to help maintain a safe, clean, and supportive shelter environment for residents. You will supervise clients, enforce policies, and support daily operations from check-in to activities.

The role requires strong communication, teamwork, and computer skills (Outlook/Excel); experience with case management software preferred. Fingerprinting is required for background checks.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with college coursework and/or technical experience or at least 1 year of related experience.
• Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
• Valid Ohio Driver’s License with annual MVR check; no unacceptable MVR.
• Ability to form good working and therapeutic relationships.
• Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills; experience with Outlook and Excel; Avatar or case management software preferred.
• Team-oriented with flexibility for shift coverage.
• Fingerprinting required for background check.

Responsibilities

• Ensure activities align with Catholic Charities’ mission, vision, and values.
• Supervise shelter clients and oversee check-in; enforce policies.
• Provide client support and guidance; transport clients to appointments.
• Perform de-escalation interventions as needed.
• Assist with medication self-administration procedures.
• Organize daily activities and group interventions; manage client records.
• Enter service data into Penelope/Avatar; process donations and reports.
• Maintain cleanliness of dining and pantry areas; supervise volunteers.
• Post announcements and uphold professional conduct.
