Job summary

Agate Housing and Services in Minnesota is seeking a Shelter Advocate to support daily shelter operations, guest services, and data entry for two housing-focused sites. You will handle intakes, information referrals, and crisis-response, while maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for guests and volunteers.

Responsibilities include shift coverage (evenings and some weekends), staying flexible across locations, and contributing to staff meetings and program routines.

Responsibilities

• Enforce shelter policy in a consistent, fair manner with a positive and respectful demeanor.
• Answer and direct calls to the shelter and monitor entrances to allow guests to access the shelter.
• Make regular rounds inside the shelter to ensure guest safety and maintain a calm atmosphere for sleeping guests; call emergency services when appropriate.
• Use de-escalation and crisis response skills to address behavior issues or conflicts, always maintaining professional boundaries.
• Monitor and review security camera footage; document and report incidents accurately.
• Facilitate collection and maintenance of required daily shelter documentation, including intakes, bed assignments, data collection, and input into online databases.
