Job summary

Churches United for the Homeless in Moorhead, MN is seeking a Shelter Advocate for the evening shift (3p-11p). The role focuses on creating a safe environment for individuals experiencing homelessness and connecting them with services to secure housing.

The ideal candidate will provide crisis support, basic guest screening, and collaborative engagement with staff, volunteers, and community partners to promote dignity and autonomy.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Knowledge of homelessness, poverty, substance abuse, and mental illness.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a comprehensive initial screening, assessments, intakes, and enrollment where appropriate.
• Ensure safety and security of guests, volunteers, visitors, and staff by communicating expectations and performing checks.
• Conduct room and personal property inspections during shift.
• Follow agency shelter protocols for reporting incidents.
• Conduct new guest orientation to ensure understanding of policies and procedures.
• Respond to guest needs and provide crisis intervention when required.
• Maintain guest files and manage data in accordance with program requirements.
• Maintain knowledge of program software and shelter information.
• Collaborate with volunteers, contractors, and donors.
• Assist guests and cleaning staff with shelter and grounds upkeep.
