Job summary

The Municipality of Anchorage Information Technology department is seeking a Desktop Engineer to apply analytical and problem solving skills to maximize IT system investments. You will configure and operate tools to manage the Microsoft Windows desktop infrastructure, packaging, and desktop compliance.

You will monitor performance, provide guidance and training, and act as the main escalation for the Direct Services team. Lead small teams on OIT projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
• and eight (8) years of experience in the field related to the position.
• OR Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or a related discipline and six (6) years of experience.
• OR Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline and four (4) years of experience.
• OR Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, a related discipline and two (2) years of experience.
• Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
• Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
• Satisfactory CJIS background check within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Apply analytical and problem solving skills to identify and resolve issues to maximize IT system investments.
• Configure and operate tools used to manage the Microsoft Windows desktop infrastructure, application packaging, and desktop compliance.
• Monitor system performance for accuracy and efficiency and recommend technical upgrades.
• Provide technical advice, guidance and informal training to coworkers and customers.
• Serve as primary escalation for the Direct Services team when issues exceed scope.
• Lead two to three member teams in support of OIT project efforts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
