Job summary

CareerNerds, LLC is seeking a Water Resources Design Engineer (Water or Wastewater) for Parsippany or Sparta, NJ. The role emphasizes hands-on design of water and wastewater facilities, pumping stations, storage facilities, and distribution systems, with strict adherence to NJDEP, EPA, CWA, and SDWA standards.

You will own the technical design, feasibility studies, and regulatory permitting, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with internal MEP and civil teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering required.
• 5-10 years of hands on water and wastewater design experience.
• PE license, or close enough that you will have it within roughly six to twelve months.
• Strong working knowledge of NJDEP regulations and permitting, plus the relevant federal standards: EPA, CWA, SDWA.
• AutoCAD, and the technical writing to produce reports and specifications that stand on their own.
• A genuine preference for staying technical.
• Nice to have: experience with funding applications and the State Revolving Fund process, and with municipal and utility clients.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineering of water and wastewater facilities, pumping stations, storage facilities, and distribution and collection systems to standards.
• Feasibility and planning studies under EPA and NJDEP guidelines.
• Engineering calculations, reports, technical specifications, cost estimates and contract documents.
• Lead regulatory coordination: NJPDES permits, Treatment Works Approvals, and related permits.
• Site investigations and field inspections supporting design and construction.
• Cross-disciplinary collaboration with structural, civil and MEP groups, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Mentorship of junior engineering staff on technical work and regulatory knowledge.
