Job summary

McMillen, Inc. is seeking a Senior Structural Managing Engineer to lead diverse water resources projects, including fisheries, hydropower, dams, flood control, and water treatment.

The role emphasizes client relationship development, project planning, and cross-functional leadership across engineering, environmental, and construction disciplines. The ideal candidate has 18+ years in civil/hydraulic engineering, a Civil/Structural Engineering degree, and PE registration (CA preferred).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited University
  • Master's degree preferred
  • 18+ years of experience in civil, and/or hydraulic engineering
  • Professional Engineering registration is required. California PE registration strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with water resource infrastructure including fishery related projects, water conveyance, storm water networks, heavy grading, water treatment, wastewater treatment and pump stations
  • Familiarity with Federal Agency codes and requirements, including FERC, USACE, USBR
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required
  • Ability to get along and work effectively with others

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and maintain client relationships; participate in professional service organizations and conferences/events; conduct workshops with clients
  • Identify project opportunities, pursue opportunities, and prepare proposals; plan strategies for water resource needs
  • Conduct kick-off meetings with stakeholders to review project plan
  • Identify risks, assumptions, and constraints and document them for project understanding
  • Manage changes to project scope, schedule, and costs and maintain alignment with the project plan
  • Ensure understanding by setting expectations according to the Project Plan
  • Lead multi-discipline teams for water resources projects and tasks
  • Measure project performance and communicate variances and corrective actions to stakeholders
  • Execute tasks defined in the project plan to achieve goals
  • Define roles and responsibilities for project team members and create a communication plan
  • Mitigate project risk events through approved actions and workarounds
  • Improve team performance through leadership, mentoring, and training
  • Design and evaluation of water infrastructure projects, including treatment facilities and distribution/conveyance facilities
  • Develop detailed designs, plans, specifications for infrastructure projects including pipelines, storage, and pump stations
  • Prepare planning reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for water, recycled water, and wastewater infrastructure
  • Manage planning, design, and construction support services for water and wastewater infrastructure
  • Design storm water management systems for water quality and quantity control
  • Prepare drainage, erosion, sediment control, utility relocation, right-of-way and construction plans and estimates

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Master's degree preferred
