Job summary

Summit Insurance Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced underwriting professional to evaluate and manage new and renewal business from remote locations across participating states.

You will develop advanced risk assessment models, collaborate with actuaries and agents, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations. The role emphasizes strong communication, negotiation, and strategic risk management, with opportunities to coach staff and influence underwriting practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 13 years of underwriting experience or related field.
• Professional designations such as AU, CPCU, CIC, INS, or ARM encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Leads the evaluation and underwriting of new and renewal business, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
• Develops and implements advanced risk assessment models to inform coverage, pricing and terms.
• Fosters partnerships with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to obtain information and provide guidance.
• Procures and analyzes reports (motor vehicle, loss history, external inspections) to support underwriting decisions.
• Ensures proper documentation of underwriting decisions and compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Evaluates complex policy renewals and modifications for potential enhancements and risk mitigation.
• Communicates underwriting strategies and decisions to internal teams, agents, and brokers.
• Monitors industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions.
