Job summary

Markel Service, Incorporated is seeking an Associate Underwriting Manager/Underwriting Manager to lead the underwriting support team and guide Associate Underwriters. You will drive performance metrics, influence underwriting direction for admitted and non-admitted products, and optimize workflows while handling complex risks and external relationships.

You will report to the SR Director and contribute to the financial performance of our books of business.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 5–10 years of underwriting experience.
• Proven ability to manage people and projects.
• Strong underwriting decision-making skills.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Sales, marketing and relationship management experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team and execute the Director's product strategy.
• Evaluate complex risks and structure coverage solutions aligned with underwriting guidelines and business objectives.
• Manage Associate Underwriters and support staff to performance goals.
• Monitor workflows and improve team efficiency.
• Manage key external relationships.
• Adapt to changing priorities, market conditions and business needs.
• Suggest ideas to improve efficiency, customer experience, and procedures.
