Job summary

Markel is seeking an Associate Underwriting Manager/Underwriting Manager to lead the underwriting support team in a dynamic US-based operation. You will drive performance, analyze complex risks, and contribute to the financial success of Markel’s books of business.

You will report to the SR Director and collaborate across teams to optimize workflows, cultivate external relationships, and guide Associate Underwriters to meet strategic objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 5–10 years of underwriting experience.
• Ability to manage people and projects.
• Proven ability to make sound underwriting decisions.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to achieve business goals and objectives.
• Demonstrated sales, marketing and relationship management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the underwriting team and implement the Director's product strategy.
• Evaluate complex risks and structure coverage solutions per guidelines.
• Manage Associate Underwriters and support staff to performance goals.
• Monitor workflows and drive efficiencies to improve team performance.
• Steward external relationships and contribute to business objectives.
• Adapt to changing priorities and market conditions.
• Propose improvements to underwriting procedures and customer experience.
