Job summary

Markel Group seeks an experienced Property underwriter to underwrite new business and renewals profitably within authority levels and guidelines. You will handle larger and more complex accounts, use underwriting tools to classify and price risks, and engage with agents and regional leaders to optimize profitability.

Senior underwriters will mentor junior staff, participate in audits, and help shape underwriting processes while supporting a diverse portfolio across the wholesale channel.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of complex Property underwriting expertise in the wholesale channel with surplus lines experience.
• Demonstrated marketing and relationship-building skills.
• Four-year college degree and/or CPCU or similar designation preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new business and renewals in a profitable manner per guidelines and authority level.
• Manage the renewal book and collaborate with agents/brokers to ensure profitability.
• Provide training or technical assistance to underwriting staff and participate in audits or meetings.
