Job summary

Nationwide is seeking an Underwriting Consultant in Brokerage Casualty to underwrite risks for Primary Casualty lines, develop pricing, terms and coverage, and manage broker relationships. You’ll place reinsurance as needed and work with actuarial, finance, and claims teams to assess profitability and loss history.

The role involves authority to approve referrals, mentoring underwriters, and shaping market strategies. Travel to broker offices for training and marketing is required as needed.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
• Completion of general insurance courses such as CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, or ASLI preferred.
• Eight years CL underwriting experience handling large or complex accounts; excess & surplus lines experience preferred.
• Knowledge of complex CL underwriting policies, practices and procedures, insurance law and underwriting/marketing principles and techniques.

Responsibilities

• Researches and develops new classes of business; analyzes market trends and competition.
• Declines or accepts business based on required information, develops premiums and endorsements.
• Achieves production and loss ratio goals with brokers; analyzes premium and loss results.
• Oversees policy maintenance, reviews endorsements and loss control reports; takes appropriate action.
