Job summary

Berkley Management Protection in Hartford, CT seeks a Senior Underwriter to manage new and renewal accounts, drive premium growth and maintain favorable loss ratios. You will mentor junior staff and shape workflow across regions, coordinating with TM, AVP and RVP teams to strengthen agency partnerships.

The role requires strong underwriting discipline, strategic initiative support, and a focus on profitability and service excellence for independent agents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 5-7 years of management liability underwriting or related experience.
• Experience contributing on a high performing marketing/sales team in a fast paced environment.
• Strong understanding of management liability products and agency relationships.

Responsibilities

• Manage underwriting tasks for new and renewal accounts in assigned regions to grow written premium.
• Lead and mentor junior underwriters and influence workflow for strategic initiatives.
• Coordinate with Territory Managers, AVPs and RVPs to target key accounts.
• Oversee submission lifecycle: quoting, filing documents, binding, and issuing applications.
• Ensure profitability through underwriting guidelines, pricing, and risk assessment.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with agents to drive growth.
• Monitor market and industry issues relevant to BMP offerings.
• Contribute to team development and internal training programs.
