Job summary

Nationwide is seeking a Senior Underwriter for the Brokerage Casualty - Excess & Surplus/Specialty (E&S/S) team. You will determine risk acceptability, pricing, and terms for the Primary Casualty line, working with brokers and reinsurers in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.

You will analyze claims history, perform risk assessment, and support reinsurance decisions within defined parameters, while building strong broker partnerships and contributing to strategic marketing efforts.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of underwriting policies, practices and procedures.
• Familiarity with insurance law and underwriting marketing principles.
• Ability to analyze risks and determine acceptability, including policy language and rating plans.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Review risks with brokers and determine acceptance or decline.
• Achieve production and loss ratio goals with brokers and program managers.
• Process policy maintenance items and endorsements; handle loss control reviews.
• May arrange reinsurance placements per department guidelines and maintain broker relationships.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with brokers, including training and marketing activities.
• Continuously improve technical and business knowledge through internal and external venues.
