Job summary

Nationwide is seeking an Underwriter in Brokerage Casualty to determine risk acceptability, pricing, and coverage terms across the Primary Casualty line. You will analyze exposures, set premiums, and foster strong broker relationships.

Experience in underwriting and reinsurance concepts is valued. You will contribute to production goals, review claims history, and exercise underwriting authority as you grow in your role within a fast-paced Excess & Surplus/Specialty environment.

Qualifications

• Education: Undergraduate studies preferred or equivalent work experience.
• License/Certification: Completion of general insurance courses such as IIA 21, 22, 23, CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, or ASLI is preferred.
• Experience: Four years related experience or prior experience as an underwriting assistant or rater is preferred.
• Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of insurance concepts and ability to communicate effectively; ability to analyze insurance risks and use job-related software.

Responsibilities

• Review risks from brokers and decide on acceptance or decline.
• Develop premiums and endorsements to address loss exposures for insurance contracts.
• Help meet production and loss ratio goals through broker management and marketing.
• Process policy maintenance items and endorsement changes; review loss control reports.
• Maintain broker relationships and travel to broker offices for training or marketing as needed.
• Develop technical and business knowledge through training and external venues.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
