Job summary

Nationwide is seeking an Underwriting Specialist in Brokerage Casualty within its Excess & Surplus/Specialty (E&S/S) team. The role focuses on accepting complex risk, pricing, and terms while collaborating with brokers and internal partners to meet production and loss ratio goals.

You will analyze exposures, determine endorsements, and foster broker relationships. Travel for training or marketing may be required as part of business development.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
• Five years as a CL underwriter; excess & surplus lines experience preferred.
• Completion of general insurance courses such as CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, or ASLI is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Research market trends and develop partnerships with Actuarial, Finance and Claims as appropriate.
• Review risks with brokers and determine acceptability, pricing and endorsements.
• Achieve production and loss ratio goals with assigned brokers and review underwriting results.
• Handle endorsements and policy changes; review loss control and claims activity.
• Place reinsurance per guidelines and maintain relationships with reinsurers.
• Develop marketing ideas and participate in underwriting events and training.
