Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced engineer to design underground transmission lines up to 500 kV and lead a small project team in a hybrid Newark-area office. You’ll develop routing, duct banks, manholes, and cable specs while coordinating with vendors and clients on component selection.

Essentially you’ll perform ampacity calculations, bonding schemes, and procurement support, with emphasis on code compliance (NESC, EPRI, IEC, IEEE) and risk-aware scheduling.

Qualifications

• This position requires a BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Proficiency with CYMCAP modeling and cable tensioning calculations.
• 7+ years of experience in underground transmission projects with schedule and budget oversight.
• Design experience with code requirements and industry standards.
• Experience with cost estimates, procurement specs, and schedule coordination.
• Knowledge of NESC, EPRI, IEC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC, ACI 318.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design underground transmission lines up to 500 kV including duct banks and manholes.
• Develop routing, siting, and cost analyses; prepare specifications and drawings.
• Lead a small project team of engineers, designers, and drafters.
• Coordinate with vendors and clients on transmission line components.
• Perform ampacity calculations, bonding schemes, and cable selection studies.
• Develop riser configurations and check construction documents.
