Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced engineer to lead the design of complex underground transmission lines up to 500kV. The role involves directing a team of engineers, designers, and drafters, with emphasis on cost-effective, code-compliant designs and strong client coordination.

The position requires a PE license, ABET-accredited BS, and extensive experience with XLPE cables, CYMCAP, and advanced cable calculations.

Qualifications

• Requires an ABET-accredited BS in engineering.
• Current PE license.
• Proficiency with CYMCAP modeling.
• Proficiency with cable tensioning calculations software.
• 12+ years leading a design team on complex underground transmission projects.
• Experience with design codes such as NESC, EPRI Green Book, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318.
• Experience with XLPE cable design.
• Experience developing cost estimates and schedules.
• Experience with right-of-way review and procurement specifications.
• Excellent MS Office skills.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication.
• Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Design complex underground transmission lines up to 500kV.
• Lead cost analyses, development of design criteria, siting and routing in complex environments, and manhole placement.
• Perform physical design including duct bank layouts, trenchless designs, and cable pulling calculations.
• Conduct cable selection studies and determine bonding schemes; perform ampacity calculations.
• Develop riser structure configuration and structural loading.
• Prepare specifications for installation and procurement of underground transmission line materials and components.
• Coordinate with vendors and clients to specify transmission line components.
• Direct project team of engineers, designers and drafters.
