Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior underground transmission engineer to design lines up to 500 kV in the United States. You will lead a small project team, develop duct bank layouts, and coordinate with vendors and clients to specify components and construction methods.

The ideal candidate has a BS in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, 7+ years in underground transmission, XLPE cable design, CYMCAP modeling, and strong documentation skills.

Qualifications

• This position requires a BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Proficiency with CYMCAP modeling.
• Proficiency with cable tensioning calculations and/or software.
• 7+ years of project team experience on underground transmission projects.
• Design experience with codes, EPRI, and client requirements.
• Experience with cost estimates and scheduling.
• Experience with XLPE cable design.
• Experience writing installation and procurement specifications.
• Knowledge to verify ROW, bonding, and construction docs.
• Knowledge of producing technical drawings and models.
• Experience writing engineering calculations support documentation.
• Familiarity with NESC, EPRI Green Book, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318.
• MS Office proficiency.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
• Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Design underground transmission lines for voltages up to 500kV.
• Responsible for cost analyses, design criteria, siting and routing, and manhole placement.
• Physical design including duct bank layouts and trenchless designs.
• Cable selection studies, bonding scheme, ampacity calculations.
• Develop riser structure configuration and loading.
• Develop installation and procurement specifications.
• Work with vendors and clients to specify components.
• Direct a small project team of engineers, designers, and drafters.
