Sargent & Lundy is seeking a qualified engineer to design underground transmission lines up to 500kV in a hybrid Portland, OR environment. You will coordinate with engineers, designers and drafters while developing duct bank layouts and cable pulling calculations.

The ideal candidate has an ABET-accredited BS and 2+ years in underground transmission, with experience in XLPE design and preparing installation specifications. Strong communication and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• This position requires a BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Experience with cable tensioning calculations and/or software.
• 2+ years of experience on underground transmission projects.
• Experience with XLPE cable design.
• Preparation of specifications for installation and procurement of underground transmission line materials and components.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Design underground transmission lines for voltages up to 500kV.
• Support Project team to develop for cost analyses, development of design criteria, routing, siting and routing challenges and placement of manholes for underground transmission lines.
• Support development of physical design including duct bank layouts, development of trenchless designs, cable pulling calculations, development of drawing packages.
• Support cable selection studies, determining bonding scheme, performing ampacity calculations.
• Develop riser structure configuration and structural loading.
• Develop specifications including cable procurement, duct bank installation, trenchless installation and general construction specifications.
• Coordinate other engineers, designers and drafters.
