Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Principal/Senior Staff Electrical Engineer to lead design and integration of UAV electronic systems. The role focuses on circuit design, FPGA, RF, video processing, and battery management within cross-functional teams.

Expertise in Altium and PCB layout is essential for developing reliable power and control solutions for small UAV platforms. The position requires extensive R&D experience (12–15 years) in aerospace, with a strong foundation in engineering

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
Minimum of 12 to 15 years of experience with R&D projects; Aerospace experience preferred.
Expert level experience in circuit design with RF, embedded control, FPGA design; power distribution and video.
Advanced knowledge of LVDS, I2C, HDMI, UART, SPI, CAN, USB, MIPI protocols.
Knowledge of Battery Management Systems and Battery Charging Systems.
Familiarity with PCB design process.
Familiarity with battery powered UAVs.
Experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
Strong engineering fundamentals in mathematics, physics, and materials.
Expertise with software tools in relevant domains.

Responsibilities

Operates CAD/engineering tools to perform engineering tasks on R&D projects.
Inspects installations to ensure conformance to specifications and safety standards.
Collaborates with avionics, embedded systems, and RF links; supports flight test operations as needed.
Troubleshoots complex systems and documents designs with drawings and descriptions.
Performs design and analysis tasks under supervision; may assist budgeting and cost estimation.
Assesses root cause to critical issues and contributes to reliability of products.
Makes decisions with impact on project costs and schedule.
Leads cross-disciplinary collaboration and may supervise others.
Contributes to company objectives through independent, innovative methods.
