Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an experienced Underground Civil Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution team in a full-time capacity. You will work on 2.4kV to 345kV underground projects, collaborating with a multi-office team to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions for the grid of tomorrow.

Responsibilities include routing analysis, package preparation, client liaison, and field support, with emphasis on design, analysis, and QA/QC. PE is a plus, FE/EIT preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with 3 years of relevant experience.
• Or ABET-accredited degree with FE exam completion and 3 years of relevant experience.
• FE/EIT is preferred.
• PE license is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of underground construction methods and electrical system equipment.
• Experience with geotechnical investigations and soil analysis for trenchless technologies.
• Familiarity with USGS resources and NESC guidelines.
• Ability to perform field inspections and architectural/construction support.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with design teams to execute underground transmission and distribution projects.
• Develop routing analyses for low-to-high voltage design.
• Prepare and review construction packages including manhole, conduit, and feeder design.
• Support business development and client relationship building across North America.
• Produce technical reports and visualizations communicating findings and trends.
• Ensure QA/QC adherence and on-time project deliverables.
• Lead or mentor less experienced staff as needed.
