Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead electrical transmission projects from 13.2kV to 500kV. You will interface with utility clients and collaborate with multiple offices, delivering robust design packages and technical analyses.

Lead teams of 2–10 engineers, develop routing studies, and prepare cost estimates. Strong communication, software skills, and ABET-accredited credentials are required to succeed in this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program with 3+ years of transmission engineering experience; consulting preferred.
• Or a Bachelor's in Civil/related Engineering Technology from ABET-accredited program with FE exam and 3+ years of transmission experience; consulting preferred.
• Or a Master's in Civil Engineering with 2+ years of transmission experience; consulting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead design teams of 2–10 engineers and designers for underground transmission and distribution projects.
• Interface with utility clients and collaborate with multiple offices.
• Develop new clients and maintain relationships with existing clients across North America.
• Prepare distribution and transmission construction packages (manhole, conduit, feeder design).
• Perform routing analyses using CADD/GIS design and mapping software.
• Conduct field inspections and QA/QC reviews of studies and designs.
• Prepare calculations and assist with equipment specifications (voltage drop, pole loading).
• Prepare proposals, project cost estimates, and execution schedules.
