Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a Civil Engineer for a leadership role overseeing design and preparation of right of way and final contract plans for highways, structures, drainage and environmental issues. You will monitor project activities and manage multi-disciplinary teams to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

The position requires a PE license, strong communication, and extensive experience in transportation design, project management and policy development within Virginia's public

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Knowledge of basic structural design.
• Skill in applying civil engineering principles related to roadway design.
• Skill in applying principles of roadway safety impacting roadway standards and designs.
• Skill in building networks and relationships with FHWA representatives and field staff.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with customers internal and external to VDOT.
• Oversee engineering studies and prepare reports with recommendations.
• Develop policies and procedures reflecting proactive management of the program area.
• Develop and implement process improvements to ensure policy conformance.
• Organize work and monitor tasks to deliver projects on schedule per VDOT standards.
• Manage consultant design and contract plan development for highway projects.
• Participate in project teams and ensure effective information dissemination.
• Fulfill duties as responsible charge engineer per Virginia Code.
• Develop roadway design and provide technical direction per standards.
