Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a licensed Civil Engineer to manage and support preconstruction activities, design roadway plans, and oversee enhancement programs. You will communicate with staff, consultants, and FHWA, while guiding contracts and project schedules to ensure quality deliverables.

The role requires PE licensure, strong leadership, and expertise in OpenRoads Designer and related tools, with a focus on safety and regulatory compliance across diverse transportation

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Valid Professional Engineer's license.
• Experience applying civil engineering principles related to roadway design.
• Experience with local, state and federal transportation rules, regulations and standards.
• Experience with roadway safety concepts and roadway design criteria.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with internal and external stakeholders including local governments and FHWA.
• Design and produce roadway plans using relevant software.
• Oversee engineering studies and analyze data to prepare reports and recommendations.
• Manage consultant- and in-house-designed projects and contracts.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures for engineering programs.
• Lead project teams and ensure timely communications and deliverables.
