Job summary

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) seeks a Senior Transportation Engineering Project Manager to lead highway and bridge projects from planning through construction across New Jersey. The role emphasizes client engagement with NJDOT and municipal agencies while mentoring teams.

The successful candidate will bring 12+ years in transportation/bridge engineering, PE licensure, and strong leadership skills to drive project delivery and business development within a growing practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or related discipline preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; New Jersey PE license preferred or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
• Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in transportation, bridge, structural, or related infrastructure engineering.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex transportation and/or bridge projects from design through construction.
• Proficiency with structural and transportation design software; LEAP Bridge, LARSA, MIDAS, CSiBridge, STAAD or similar platforms preferred.
• Strong understanding of project management principles: scope, schedule, budget, staffing, quality control, and risk management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to mentor engineers and lead teams.
• Experience with NJDOT design standards, AASHTO, and related transportation/structural standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead transportation and infrastructure projects from planning through construction support.
• Manage bridge rehabilitation/replacement and roadway improvement projects.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams across bridge, roadway, traffic, geotechnical, environmental, and water resources.
• Serve as primary client contact with NJDOT, counties, municipalities and other agencies.
• Manage scope, schedule, budget, staffing, quality control and client expectations.
• Prepare and review engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports and calculations.
• Provide technical leadership on transportation and structural engineering strategies.
• Coordinate design activities across disciplines and resolve issues to maintain schedules.
• Ensure compliance with AASHTO, NJDOT, MUTCD and local standards.
• Conduct site visits, field investigations, and structural assessments.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and support their growth.
• Participate in proposals, scopes, fees, client presentations and BD initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and grow practice.
