Job summary
Duke Energy seeks a Senior Engineer to perform engineering studies, calculations, and settings development for substation protective relays. The role focuses on applying new protective relaying for planned projects and integrating new designs into existing legacy systems, with field support for implementation and commissioning as needed.
You will collaborate with Transmission Planning, Account Management, Tech Support, Operations, Asset Management and Compliance teams, developing advanced skills
Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) or M.S. in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years with Professional Engineer registration.
- Knowledge of relay protection schemes and related standards (NERC PRC/CIP) is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and ability to present recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Provide protective relay engineering expertise to identify, analyze, and resolve increasingly complex issues.
- Plan and execute work (scope, schedule, estimates) and adapt to changing priorities.
- Conduct engineering and related studies.
- Create and update technical schematics and configuration files for planned project work.
- Prepare clear technical documentation (reports, calculations, sketches) for analyses.
- Maintain and grow technical and professional skills.
- Coordinate with teammates and stakeholder teams; maintain records.
- Support company goals and represent the company professionally.
