Job summary

GFT, a leading engineering firm, seeks a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to lead transmission line project designs, mentor staff, and engage with clients across a hybrid work model. Based in or eligible for Charlotte, NC area with remote option for the right candidate.

You will design lines using PLS-CADD, develop construction packages, ensure compliance with NESC, IEEE, NEC, and oversee feasibility studies, routing, and project cost estimates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Structural Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• 7+ years of experience in transmission line design.
• In-depth knowledge of NESC, IEEE, NEC requirements and industry standards.
• High proficiency in PLS-CADD.
• Experience in electrical utility or utility consulting preferred.
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee transmission line project designs as a subject matter expert.
• Navigate design complexities and lead client/internal discussions.
• Prepare construction packages with structure details, material lists, staking tables, plans and profiles, and stringing charts.
• Estimate project costs, resources, labor, and materials; set realistic deadlines.
• Write and review specifications per NESC, IEEE, NEC and industry best practices.
• Conduct feasibility and routing studies and EMF calculations.
• Oversee project implementation, verifying foundations, structures, and equipment installations.
• Assist with proposal preparation and business development.
• Travel to client sites during definition and execution phases.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers and technicians.
