Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to lead ITS and traffic engineering projects across urban and rural roadways in the Mid-Atlantic region. The role emphasizes design oversight, technical leadership, and collaboration with a diverse team of planners, engineers, and construction professionals.

Ideal candidates will bring 10+ years of ITS experience, a PE license, and proficiency with HCS, CORSIM, Synchro/SIM Traffic and VISSIM.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 10 years' experience in ITS and traffic engineering for urban and rural highways, major and minor interchanges and intersections.
• Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
• Knowledge of regulations of state and federal transportation agencies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Experience using HCS, CORSIM, Synchro/SIM Traffic and other software packages.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, presentation skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide design oversight for roadway, lighting, signing, pavement marking, traffic signals and traffic management system design plans.
• Assist in providing oversight of traffic control and sequencing plans during construction.
• Serve as a technical expert resolving problems of greater scope and developing projects with significant impact on company programs.
• Organize and supervise work of staff as needed.
• Serve as project manager on larger projects when required.
• Perform other duties as needed.
