Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to lead design activities for roadways, traffic signals, and ITS subsystems in a major transportation portfolio. You will oversee construction sequencing and provide technical direction for complex projects in the Mid-Atlantic region, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

The role requires 10+ years of ITS/traffic experience, PE license, and strong communication and leadership abilities in a collaborative, employee-owned environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required and PE license recognized by licensing board.
• At least 10 years experience in ITS/traffic engineering for urban and rural highways, interchanges and intersections.
• Strong oral and written communication, presentation skills, and ability to work in a team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and traffic software packages such as HCS, CORSIM, Synchro/SIM Traffic.

Responsibilities

• Provide design oversight for roadway, lighting, signing, pavement marking, traffic signals and traffic management system design plans; intersection design; capacity and signal warrant analyses; and all aspects of an Intelligent Traffic Sub-system.
• Assist in overseeing traffic control and sequencing plans during construction.
• Serve as technical expert and develop projects or design activities with significant impact; organize and supervise teams of professionals and technicians.
• Serve as project manager on larger projects as needed.
