Job summary

Newport News Public Schools seeks an experienced Technology Support Specialist to install, maintain and repair desktop and mobile computing devices, network connectivity and related peripherals. The role emphasizes customer service to staff and students and may require driving to various schools for on-site support.

The position involves diagnostics, complex troubleshooting, and collaboration with Systems Administration, Network Services and AV teams to resolve issues efficiently.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in computer science or related field with related experience.
• Strong troubleshooting and customer service skills for staff and students.
• Ability to read technical materials and follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Ensures system operation and performs installation, maintenance and repair of computer hardware, network connectivity, applications, peripherals and other computer related components/equipment.
• Performs in-depth diagnostics and preventative maintenance to ensure supported systems are operational.
• Troubleshoots system level problems and performs repairs to include replacement of components and complete systems.
• Responds to emergency work requests; troubleshoots supported system failures and errors; diagnoses, isolates, and resolves complex system problems.
• Interacts with Systems Administration, Network Services, Communication Services and Audio-Visual teams to troubleshoot and resolve system level problems.
• Travels to and from schools’/work sites in the performance of duties.
