BerkleyNet in the United States is seeking an Executive Technical Underwriter to serve as a senior technical authority within underwriting. You will shape strategy, influence risk selection, and guide complex decisions across the portfolio to drive profitability and growth.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of workers' compensation underwriting experience.
• Experience underwriting complex middle market and large accounts.
• Ability to influence underwriting strategy at a department or enterprise level.
• Strong analytical skills to translate data into insights.
• Experience partnering with actuarial, product, and analytics teams.
• Executive-level communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to lead through influence in a matrixed environment.
• Knowledge of workers’ compensation laws and market trends.

Responsibilities

• Serve as escalation point for highly complex, non-standard, or high-exposure workers’ compensation risks.
• Refine underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and risk appetite frameworks across premium bands and market segments.
• Provide expert judgment on pricing, structure, and coverage for complex accounts, balancing profitability, growth, and risk tolerance.
• Monitor portfolio performance and loss trends to proactively identify emerging risks and opportunities.
• Partner with actuarial and analytics teams to evaluate rate adequacy, segmentation strategies, and underwriting models.
• Influence annual and multi-year underwriting plans, including new business growth, retention strategy, and mix of business targets.
• Drive corrective action plans when portfolio performance deviates from targets.
• Represent underwriting in enterprise-wide initiatives and working groups.
