Job summary

AVATAR FLEET LLC is seeking a Systems & Security Engineer to own Linux system administration, AWS infrastructure, and security operations in a largely remote environment. You will work with the CTO and engineering team to maintain production reliability, patching, monitoring, and SOC 2 Type II readiness.

You will manage EC2/ECS, WAF, ALB, S3, and data protection, develop automation with Terraform and Ansible, and respond to incidents with clear documentation and timely remediation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on Linux systems administration with production security and availability responsibility.
• Strong AWS administration skills across EC2, ECS, IAM, networking, load balancing, storage, WAF and monitoring.
• Experience supporting SOC 2 Type II audits with evidence collection and remediation tracking.
• Hands-on vulnerability management, Linux patching, security hardening, and incident response.
• Experience with Terraform, Ansible, AWS CLI, shell scripting, Docker, and Docker Compose.
• Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and secure deployments with engineers.
• Ability to troubleshoot across Linux, AWS, networking, containers, databases, and runtimes.
• Python scripting, GitHub workflows, and familiarity with Flask, JavaScript, Vue, Jira, and Sentry.
• Experience improving monitoring, disaster recovery, and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day security administration and SOC 2 Type II control execution with CTO and control owners.
• Maintain patched and hardened systems, monitoring, backups, and documented controls.
• Deploy, configure, and maintain AWS resources (EC2, ECS, WAF, ALB, S3, EFS, IAM).
• Improve uptime and availability while optimizing performance and costs.
• Support CI/CD configuration, deployment environments, and secure pipeline access.
• Collaborate with engineers to diagnose infrastructure and runtime issues.
