Job summary

Advocate Health seeks a skilled Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team. You will prepare instruments, assist in patient setup, and ensure sterile technique across complex procedures including neurosurgery, cardiothoracic, vascular, and robotics.

Requires graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program and NBSTSA/NCCT certification, plus BLS. You will participate in ongoing education, policy development, and serve as a clinical resource and preceptor.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application.

Responsibilities

• Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during and after surgical procedure.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Assists RN circulator in preparation of patient, assembly of supplies, instruments, equipment, and specimens; assists with room turnover.
• Heightened specialized procedures: neurosurgery and spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex orthopedics, robotics.
• Performs duties according to department policy and procedure.
• Monitors surgical supplies and instrumentation for sterility prior to use and ensures proper charges are documented/submitted.
• Monitors and documents sterilization activities for completion.
• Attends in-services/staff meetings; participates in Performance Improvement Process.
• Participates in educational opportunities to increase competency.
• Assists in development of policies, procedures, and standards.
• Serves as a preceptor and a clinical resource to others.
• Assumes responsibility for unit clinical projects and oversees service lines as needed.
