Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist in sterile technique and instrument handling in complex procedures. You will prep supplies, assist RN circulator, and support room turnover for neurosurgery, spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, and robotics cases.

Required 5 years OR experience with specialization training, NBSTSA/NCCT certification, and current BLS. You will monitor sterility and participate in policy development and education to improve performance.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or military training in Surgical Technology/Operating Room Specialist.
• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider required.
• Current NBSTSA or NCCT certification required.
• 5 years total operating room experience; 2 years in specialized areas (neurosurgery/spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex ortho, robotics).
• Meets all ST III qualifications of Surgical Tech Ladder.
• Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development and age-specific patient care.
• Demonstrates ability to communicate and write clearly.

Responsibilities

• Possesses a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application.
• Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during and after surgical procedure.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Assists RN circulator in preparation of patient, assembly of supplies, instruments, equipment, and proper disposition of all specimens; assists with room turnover.
• Assigned to heightened specialized procedures: neurosurgery and spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex orthopedics, and robotics.
• Performs duties according to department policy and procedure.
• Monitors surgical supplies and instrumentation for sterility prior to use and ensures that supplies are used in a judicious manner, charges are documented/submitted accurately and appropriately.
• Monitors and documents sterilization activities for completion.
• Attends in-services/staff meetings; participates in Performance Improvement Process.
• Participates in educational opportunities to increase competency and meet personal needs and goals.
• Assists in the development of policies, procedures, and standards.
• Serves as a preceptor, and a clinical resource to others.
• Assumes responsibility for individual specified unit clinical projects and oversees service lines as needed.
