Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System in New York is seeking a Surgical Scheduling Coordinator to manage daily scheduling of DAS and Ambulatory OR surgeries for adults and children. You will support front office operations and obtain preauthorization from insurers to ensure smooth patient care.

Qualifications

• HS/GED; Associate degree preferred.
• 3 years of scheduling experience, with 2 years in a clinical setting.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school preferred.
• Basic MS Office knowledge; IDX and Cerner systems knowledge helpful.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate all OR surgeries and procedures.
• Monitor front office workflow and adjust to optimize service delivery.
• Verify patient demographics and obtain pre-certification from insurance carriers.
• Obtain patient medical clearance.
• Resolve patient issues or answer questions regarding policies and procedures.
• Place surgical confirmation calls 1 day in advance of scheduled surgery.
• Schedule post-op follow-up visits with providers.
• Liaison between referring physicians and surgeons for communication of data and OR scheduling.
• Train and mentor other Surgical Scheduling Coordinators or less senior staff.
• Collect and distribute appropriate paperwork to internal and external parties to coordinate the surgeries.
• Recording of hospital reservation and pre-admit data in CERNER system.
