Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an experienced Substation Structural Engineer to join our Power Delivery Civil/Structural Group. Open positions include Ann Arbor, MI and other cities across the U.S.

You will support design, analysis, and delivery of load‑bearing structures for electrical substations. The role involves data analysis, site surveys, modeling, and collaboration with engineers and regulators to ensure safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and application to project work‑related issues.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of sustainability concepts and reducing hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
  • Knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Effective self‑leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks, follow instructions, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with discipline‑specific design software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS).

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and design for structural solutions on substation projects.
  • Collaborate with civil/structural team to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance.
  • Modeling and analysis using standard engineering tools and software.
  • Prepare reports and documentation on materials, installations, and construction specifications.
  • Support junior team members with technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
  • Assist in site health and safety plans (HASPs) and project scoping.
  • Participate in cross‑functional teams across multiple locations.
