Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer – Protection and Controls to join our electric power design team in Texas.

You will lead protection and control design across projects from 12kV to 500kV, applying NESC, NEC, and IEEE standards to deliver reliable, compliant solutions. You will develop schemes, relay logic, wiring diagrams, and I/O mappings while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited electrical engineering degree required.
• 5+ years of experience in substation physical design engineering.
• Expertise in protection and control design, relay applications, and system integration.
• Strong knowledge of NESC, NEC, IEEE standards and client requirements.
• Ability to lead multi-discipline design reviews and deliverables with high accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation protection and control design, including schemes and I/O mappings.
• Develop and review complex protection designs, relay logic, and control schemes.
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated design packages.
• Perform protection coordination studies, fault analysis, and device setting concepts.
• Provide technical direction, mentorship, and client-facing leadership.
• Oversee procurement support, submittal reviews, and field issue resolution.
• Manage multiple projects with emphasis on schedule, quality, and scope.
