Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. seeks a Senior Substation Engineer – Protection and Controls to join its electric substation design team in Overland Park, KS.

You will engineer protection and control schemes for 12kV to 500kV projects, develop relay logic, and produce detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, and I/O mappings. The role requires leadership on complex projects, ensuring compliance with NESC, NEC, and IEEE, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams, and mentoring junior engineers

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BSEE or equivalent required.
• 5+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Strong knowledge of protection and control design, relay applications, and integration with substation equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the execution of substation projects and own protection and control scope.
• Serve as technical lead for protection and control design and deliverables.
• Develop and approve protection/ control configurations and relay logic.
• Review studies and provide oversight of relay settings and control system functionality.
• Ensure codes and client requirements (NESC, NEC, IEEE) are followed across deliverables.
• Oversee design integration across disciplines for constructible packages.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to staff.
• Manage multiple projects with attention to schedule and quality.
• Support procurement, construction, field issue resolution, and site visits.
