Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer – Protection & Control to design, review, and deliver high‑voltage substation projects.

You will apply NESC, NEC, and IEEE/NERC standards to create diagrams, schematics, and protection settings, while coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams and clients. The role requires PE licensure, 6+ years of P&C experience, and a proven ability to lead engineers and drive project success.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited electrical engineering degree.
• PE license required.
• 6+ years in substation protection and control engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams across concurrent projects.
• Strong understanding of NESC, NEC, IEEE and NERC PRC requirements.
• Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering efforts and client interactions.
• Proficiency with protection analysis and relay coordination tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation Protection and Control across multiple concurrent projects with technical ownership.
• Serve as Engineer of Record with PE stamping of protection and control deliverables.
• Guide engineers and designers to ensure standards and study methodologies are consistently applied.
• Coordinate across disciplines to integrate protection with control systems and field implementation.
• Lead client communications and technical strategy discussions, reviews, and scope alignment.
• Interpret contracts to ensure deliverables meet contractual, regulatory, and reliability requirements.
• Identify scope gaps and drive resolution with stakeholders across projects.
• Contribute to proposals, estimates and change orders for protection studies and settings development.
• Monitor project performance including schedule, quality, and client satisfaction.
• Lead project coordination meetings and provide technical mentorship to staff.
