Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Substation Physical Project Designer to work in a hybrid setting near Boise, ID. The role focuses on creating and reviewing substation drawings and material lists, ensuring alignment with project specifications and industry standards.

You will lead technical reviews, perform client walkdowns, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with engineers to deliver compliant, cost-effective designs on multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• 15+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.
• Ability to multi-task from project to project.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of a computer.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and reviews substation drawings (General Arrangement, Equipment Plans, Elevations, BOM, grounding, conduit and details).
• Performs technical review of vendor deliverables and coordinates comments.
• Leads field walkdowns and interfaces with clients and contractors.
• Ensures designs conform to codes and client standards; applies knowledge to tasks.
• Mentors designers and reviews calculations and deliverables.
• Develops cost-effective design approaches and integrates inputs from other disciplines.
