Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Substation Physical Project Designer to join a project team of engineers and designers. You will lead the preparation and detailed review of substation drawings and perform field walkdowns to gather critical data.

Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with codes and standards, mentoring junior staff, and developing cost-effective design approaches within an integrated design framework.

Qualifications

• AssociatesDegree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• 15+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.
• Ability to multi-task from project to project.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of a computer.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical review of project team's comments on vendor design deliverables and coordinate incorporation.
• Lead field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities; discuss walkdown issues with clients/contractors.
• Ensure designs conform to codes and standards; apply client standards to the project.
• Provide guidance to designers, drafters and project stakeholders on tools and client design methods.
• Review and supervise production of design deliverables and calculations.
• Develop cost-effective design approaches and coordinate inputs for integrated design.
