Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Lead Substation Protection & Controls Engineer to own P&C designs for 12–500 kV systems. You will create relay one-line diagrams, develop AC/DC schematics, and build control panels while guiding a team across design, installation, and commissioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of substation protection and control design experience.
• Experience leading substation protection and control projects.
• Strong communication with internal teams and clients.
• Ability to meet deadlines in fast-paced environments.
• Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities.
• Willingness to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support delivery of substation protection and control design projects.
• Create relay one-line diagrams defining protection zones.
• Develop AC schematics showing currents, voltages, and device relationships.
• Produce DC control and protection schematics for safe operation.
• Design control panels, wiring diagrams, and layouts for construction.
• Build accurate BOMs aligned with project criteria.
• Perform QC checks on wiring and schematic designs.
• Provide guidance during installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Apply NEC requirements to ensure compliant designs.
• Interpret utility standards across all deliverables.
• Collaborate with design staff to produce complete drawing packages.
