Job summary

Leidos LLC is seeking a Lead Substation Protection & Controls Engineer in Charlotte, NC, offering hybrid work with 3 days in-office or remote in select US states. You’ll own complex protection and control designs for 12–500 kV systems and mentor a team of engineers and CAD technicians.

You’ll create relay diagrams, AC/DC schematics and BOMs, while traveling to sites as needed. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and collaboration on high‑voltage projects with opportunities for professional

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of substation protection and control design experience.
• Experience leading substation projects and delivering on schedule.
• Clear communication with internal teams and clients.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the delivery of substation protection and control design projects.
• Create relay one-line diagrams defining protection zones and topology.
• Develop AC schematics showing current, voltage and device relationships.
• Produce DC control and protection schematics for safe operation.
• Design control panels, wiring diagrams and layouts for construction.
• Build accurate BOMs aligned with project criteria and standards.
• Perform QC checks on wiring and schematic designs for accuracy and safety.
• Provide guidance during installation, testing and commissioning.
• Apply NEC requirements to ensure safe and compliant designs.
• Collaborate with design staff to produce complete drawing packages.
