Job summary

Sun Recruiting, Inc. is hiring a traveling field technician to test and maintain high‑voltage substation equipment across the Midwest.

This full‑time, home‑based role serves Chicago, Springfield IL, Madison WI, or Green Bay WI with up to 100% travel and per diem. You will test, troubleshoot and commission LV through HV systems (up to 765 kV), inspect switchgear and breakers, transformers, and perform tests with equipment such as Doble M4000.

Qualifications

• High-voltage substation experience (69–345 kV) with relays, breakers, transformers and controls.
• NETA Level II–IV preferred; military training is a plus.
• Willingness to travel up to 100% with per diem.

Responsibilities

• Test, troubleshoot and commission LV through HV systems, up to 765 kV.
• Test switchgear and breakers, including SF6 gas breakers and GIS.
• Inspect, test and repair transformers, from small units up to large power transformers.
• Run power factor and other HV test sets (Doble M4000 class or similar), and test cable installations.
• Commission and troubleshoot control and transfer schemes.
