Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company seeks a Principal Engineer – Substation for a 1-year contract (W-2). This role is remote with some travel within North America and will oversee projects from conception through commissioning, coordinating with the Early-Stage Project Manager and Development Group.

You will lead engineering oversight, supplier scoping, and compliance with IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and interconnection requirements, interfacing with ISO bodies as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical or civil/structural engineering.
• 7+ years of experience in substation design and HV projects.
• Project engineering or project management with strong bias for action.
• PMP and/or Professional Engineer licensure is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with stakeholders to develop and secure a substation site and permits.
• Source engineering consulting resources, manage scope and bids.
• Training and technical oversight of engineers of record for compliance with standards.
• Contract services and support ISC with cost estimates and scope assumptions.
• Represent E&C interests in progress updates, issues and risk mitigation meetings.
• Support Transmission Services with interconnection studies and agreements.
• Coordinate with transmission owners/operators/ISOs to meet off-taker requirements.
• Manage long lead material orders and create shopping carts for services.
• Support E&C Estimating with template updates and scope modifications.
• Collaborate with project engineers to set priorities and demarcations.
• Ensure safe, cost-effective implementation per procedures and policies.
• Support commissioning activities and regulatory filings.
