Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Experienced Substation Electrical Engineer for our Houston, Austin, Fort Worth, and Overland Park offices. Be part of the Power Delivery Substation Team, focusing on high‑voltage substations and protection & controls design from 15kV to 345kV.

This role provides design, analysis, and reporting support across utilities and industrial projects, with a hybrid or in‑office work setup and remote consideration for seasoned candidates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
• 3–5 years of post-education experience designing power transmission and distribution systems.
• Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
• Ability to coordinate with regulators and understand requirements.
• Knowledge of electrical codes and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance for design, development, and construction of high‑voltage substations (15kV–345kV).
• Analyze data related to components and equipment specs for procurement packages, IFR/IRC design, and IEEE/NERC standards.
• Review third-party design documents, procurement lists, and project plans.
• Develop electrical calculations for loads, feeder sizes, grounding, and lighting.
• Prepare data visualizations and reports for data interpretation and decision making.
• Collaborate with engineers and disciplines on projects with regulatory authorities.
