Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Experienced Substation Design Engineer for our Saint Louis, MO office. You will support the Power & Energy Substation Team, handling design, execution, and mentoring within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

You will work on transmission and distribution substations, protection and control systems, and related EMI/engineering tasks. A hybrid or in-office setup is preferred, with remote work possible for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 3–5 years of post-education experience in electrical engineering with substation design.
• Experience with design/build, permitting, and project controls for substations and HV systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical design guidance for high-voltage substations from 15 kV to 345 kV (up to 500 kV preferred).
• Support data collection, equipment specs, and IFR/IRC design processes.
• Develop physical layouts, bus arrangements, grounding, and protection/controls designs.
• Review third-party documents for physical and P&C aspects of HV substations.
• Contribute to future-ready design concepts, equipment sizing, and cabling strategies.
• Assist senior engineers with research and recommendations on components.
• Prepare calculations, reports, and data visualizations for findings.
• Maintain QA/QC standards for measurements and analysis.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and scheduling.
• Contribute to technical reports and presentations to address design problems.
• Assist in health and safety plan development for sites.
