Job summary

Serco is seeking a Principal Naval Architect to lead submarine design, analysis, and programmatic support for NAVSEA and PMS450. The role requires shepherding complex weight, stability, and hull-form work across multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced defense environment.

The ideal candidate brings a strong naval architecture background, DoD clearance, and proven leadership in ship systems integration, weight control, and technical documentation within submarine programs.

Qualifications

• Active DoW Secret security clearance or higher is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or a related field with at least 8 years of marine industry experience.
• Strong background in naval architecture principles and practical design in a submarine context.

Responsibilities

• Design, development, and optimization of submarines, considering stability, weight, and performance.
• Lead design reviews, ensure design meets requirements and acceptable risk for build.
• Coordinate with NAVSEA, shipyards, and suppliers; manage technical documentation.
• Oversee weight control, hydrostatics, stability, and tank capacity analyses.
• Use CAD tools (AutoCAD, Maxsurf) to produce and review design information.
• Guide cross-disciplinary teams and provide project management leadership.
• Support NAVSEA 05P3 in SIT activities and program management.
• Prepare technical correspondence and respond to inquiries from stakeholders.
